2020 & Beyond, Transition Workshops

October 14, 2019 by Fiona Theseira Leave a Comment

Travelling and Prepping for 2020 and Beyond Meetings

2020 & Beyond Transition Workshops

We had a super busy September here at Women’s Council, California. We started off the first eleven days of September with three, 2020 and Beyond Transition Workshop meetings. The five 2019 & 2020 State Line Officers traveled to Paso Robles, Mission Viejo and Vallejo.

The Journey

Kay and I  started out the journey, via a six seat mini van, in San Diego. We picked Eileen up in Mission Viejo,  driving up to Paso Robles, where we met Sabrina and Rosanna. (Some of us expected a bigger van, and this is an additional story)! The five of us, plus our Key Note Speaker, Julia Glyde, drove in the mini van, from Paso Robles and Solvang, down to Mission Viejo.  We learned new and valuable skills, including being in small spaces together for an extended period of time, and packing the mini van for 6 women and their luggage (check out that photo)!

The van rides and time together were invaluable to the team. As a result, we were able to bounce ideas off each other and build upon ideas.  We took advantage of our time together, we met several times to strategize for the 2020 and Beyond Workshops, and finalized some outstanding details for the Fall Leadership Summit meeting that occurred September 23rd-24th.

The Workshops

All three meetings had a different vibe and feel.  The five line officers shared tools to use, plus tips and tricks for transitioning between the 2019 and 2020 local Network Governing Boards.  We demonstrated how the State is mirroring what we trained on for the 2019/2020 transition. It was a leadership bonding opportunity, in addition to being able to share our leadership skills, experience and recommendations with attendees. Each of the three workshops were positive and we received rave reviews.

Attendees received very valuable information that they were able to take back to their Networks and have since started implementing.  Julia Glyde, our Video Trainer extraordinaire, trained attendees so that everyone left having made a great video they could use and share.  Our 2019 Presidents were honored by the current governing board. The 2020 Teams were given permission and encouraged to start on their planning and strategizing, without taking over their gavels until January 1, 2020.

It was fantastic to see so many first time attendees at a meeting that had a State influence.  Many “bigger picture” light bulbs turned on with attendees.  We saw the realization that there was more to Women’s Council of REALTORS®, that went beyond the local Network level.  It was very cool to see, and a #LevelUp moment.

Message from President Fiona

June 27, 2019 by Fiona Theseira Leave a Comment

Happy July 4th

And in the blink of an eye, it’s July!  Happy July 4th!  My 29th year of celebrating America’s Independence!  How is your year? 2019 for me has been super-fast, full of joy, growth, feedback and momentum.

Great news, and in keeping with our promise in Sacramento, it looks extremely likely that we can keep Fall Summit registration to $350 early bird pricing. We are putting together the final contract.  Details coming soon!

Your State leadership team and I are busy with the plans for the 2019 Fall Summit.  We have already made great strides in putting together a fantastic educational and leadership building experience for those attending.  We do highly recommend that you bring as many of your 2020 team as you can fiscally manage.

Thank you to the local governing board members who completed the Jotform questionnaire for us, we will be on track to accommodate your requests.  We will release our speakers soon.

Here’s to your Summer being productive and successful.

See you soon!

Fiona

Multi Network Transition Events, 2020 & Beyond

June 27, 2019 by Fiona Theseira Leave a Comment

September is just around the corner and we have three great opportunities for each Network to bring their 2019 & 2020 governing boards and future leaders to a State run event.  These events will provide facilitation in handing over the baton between the governing board members, provide insights for new and up and coming leaders, an opportunity for members to attend a State meeting and enjoy Networking with leaders outside of the local Networks plus Social Media and Video training with Julia Glyde, a renowned speaker and trainer.

We are excited to reintroduce the Transition Events, here are the links for the flyers and to sign up in Eventbrite:-

District 1 – September 11th – Hiddenbrooke Golf Club, Vallejo

District 2 – September 3rd – Allegretto Vineyard Resort, Paso Robles

District 3 – September 5th – Mission Viejo Country Club, Mission Viejo

Multi Event Sponsorship and Networking Brochure Opportunities

We are producing a Networking brochure that will be printed for each of the three events, containing the same contributors, with a different cover at each event.  REALTOR® members, this is your opportunity, for $100, to have a business card ad. in a State Women’s Council Networking brochure that will be State-wide and will have some longevity.  You can sign up in the appropriate link above.

There are sponsorship opportunities for each event.  We love and appreciate being in Partnership with our Affiliates. The Eventbrite links are included in each of the District links above. We estimate that there will be 80 – 120+ REALTORS® at each of the three meetings.

Elections..By Eileen Oldroyd, 2019 President-Elect

How to Run a Successful Election in 2019…

Always one for innovation, President Fiona set a goal to implement electronic elections at our Spring meeting in Sacramento. After hours of research, conference calls and test elections, it was time to take the leap of faith and hope that all of that hard work pay off. We had a few growing pains during the process but we did it! Once again, California is setting the example for the rest of the nation to follow.

Now it’s your turn to conduct your elections. You don’t need to have electric voting, but you do need to follow policy and procedures. Be sure to follow the 90, 60, 10, 7 Rule

90 Days Out: Governing Board appoints a Candidate Review Team (this should be complete by now)

60 Days Out: Team begins to solicit applications for positions

30 Days Out: Applications due. Eligibility confirmed

10 Days Out: President notifies membership of the candidates

7 Days Out: Forms due back if running from the floor

Election Day!

Don’t forget reminders to your members to keep them up to date of the deadlines. Even though you are only electing a President Elect and Treasurer, encourage all of your members to apply for all governing board positions so you know who is interested in leadership. If you’re lucky, you may have more than one candidate running for the same position. Sign of a healthy network!

Click here for ALL the forms you will need to conduct timely and informative elections (please be sure to scroll all the way down).

Don’t forget, the deadline to finish your elections is August 15th

Once all positions have been filled, be sure to fill out Network Officer Reporting Jotform that is due by November 1st: https://form.jotform.com/82106311293144

Fall Leadership Summit

You spoke: we listened! A few weeks ago, a survey was sent out to our members regarding The Fall Leadership Summit in Los Angeles September 23-24th. We inquired as to what kind of programs would bring value, help you with your business and support local network excellence. Because of your feedback, the State Leadership Team is putting together a robust agenda for two days of powerful speakers and breakout sessions.

Relay races are won in the handing off of the baton. Meaning, the transitions. We need your help to ensure your networks have the proper tools and training to hit the ground running. The expectation is for the networks to bring their current President and the incoming 2020 teams so do smart fundraising between now and September.

Bring your teams, plenty of business cards and an open mind. Leaders truly are made here.

Ready, set, go!

Inspiration from Sabrina Brown, 2020 Treasurer

June 27, 2019 by Fiona Theseira Leave a Comment

The Story of Two Frogs…

A group of frogs were traveling through the forest when two of them fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that there was no hope left for them.

However, the two frogs ignored their comrades and proceeded to try to jump out of the pit. However, despite their efforts, the group of frogs at the top of the pit were still saying that they should just give up as they’d never make it out.

Eventually, one of the frogs took heed of what the others were saying and he gave up, jumping even deeper to his death. The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the group of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and to just die.

He ignored them, and jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs said, “Did you not hear us?”

The frog explained to them that he was deaf, and that he thought they were encouraging him the entire time.Moral of the story: People’s words can have a huge effect on the lives of others. Therefore, you should think about what you’re going to say before it comes out of your mouth – it might just be the difference between success and failure
