GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MINUTES

JUNE 4, 2002
HYATT HOTEL, SACRAMENTO

Attendees: 66 National members, 3 Sponsors, and a total of 69 in attendance.

Meeting called to order at 9:00 AM by President Betty Taisch

Linda Hofstatter announced interviews today in room 842 for DVP and State officers.

Cynthia Davis, Southwest Riverside Chapter President, led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Fay B. King, Solano Chapter President, gave the inspiration.

Carol Luckenbach, State Governor; lead us in " Star Spangled Banner"

Betty Taisch introduced the State Officers: Susan Marshall, Sharon Telles, and Jeri Jorgenson; Regional VP; Emily Link, National Governors; Bobbie Nelson, Lori Staehling, Ruth Hayles; and State Governors; Carol Luckenbach, James Nevans, and Pat Fredericks; Past State Presidents; Nina Lyons, Emily Link, and Judy Myers; Sponsor; First American Title.

Attendance: Jeri Jorgenson took Roll call. Four State Officers, 2 National Governors, 3 State Governors, 20 Chapter Presidents, 13 Committee Chairs, and Vicky Campbell, Parliamentarian, were present which constitutes a quorum.

Jeri Jorgenson reviewed the minutes of the January 22, 2002 general meeting. Corrections were made on Barbara Safran’s name and The National Roster. Minutes were filed for audit.

Susan Marshall, Treasurer, reported no change since the Governing Board meeting.

Sharon Telles, Membership reported there are currently 1,507 members with 27 State chapters.

Betty Taisch announced winners of membership retention from our National meeting, they were the Coachella Valley Chapter and Monterey Peninsula Chapter. Lorena King, Delta Chapter received her LTG at National.

Governor’s reports: Lori Staehling; Pat Frederick; Carol Luckenbach; James Nevans; and Bobbie Nelson gave reports on their chapters. Ruth Hayles was unable to report due to illness.

John Wong, VP for CRB, was introduced.

Betty Taisch announced that Nellie Keate with the San Francisco Chapter will be our State Historian.

Ways and Means- Maryjane Cambria presented Chapter Spotlights. Chapters presented: San Francisco Chapter by Cathlyne Scharetg and Nellie Keate; Delta Chapter by Janice Spencer, Virginia Carranza, Jeri Jorgenson, and Lorena King; and Sacramento Chapter by Maxine Feil.

Committee Reports:

Audit- Jean Tietgen recommend Local Chapters bring your LCP books to the next meeting if you need any help.

Credentials- Carol Meyers recommended the Credentials and Registration roll into a Registration / Credentials committee. The Credential committee receives the registration and work closely with the Meeting Planning chair and Treasurer.
Credentials are to be checked and processed prior to the meeting. Committee to obtain the Governing Board list from the Secretary prior to the meeting. Envelopes will contain different colored cards for each registered National member eligible to vote at the meetings.

By Laws- Judy Myers, Co-Chair, Presented the following MOTION Change Article 10 Section 2a to read standing committees shall be Awards, Bylaws, Education and Programs, Finance and Budget, Membership, Nominating, Strategic Planning, and Ways and Means. PASSED.

MOTION Article IV Section 1 The government of the State Chapter shall be vested in the governing board which shall consist of the Officers, District VP, all current Local Chapter Presidents, the past State Chapter Presidents in attendance and chairs of the Standing Committee. All of who shall be entitled to vote. PASSED

MOTION ArticleVI 4c Strike governors of the state and replace with District VP. Wherever a reference to State Governors appears in the Bylaws and Standing Rules, it shall be replaced with District VP. PASSED.

Standing Rule changes: MOTION to amend standing rules, section 2A, to read: members nominated for officers shall be an active member in good standing at the time of the election; have served as a Local Chapter President; and hold the LTG designation. Discussion. MOTION AMENDED by Pat Fredericks to read: Members nominated for Officers: shall be an active member in good standing; must be a past LCP; and a LTG designee at the time of nomination. Discussion AMENDED by Lorraine Abrams addendum to be effective 2003. PASSED

MOTION by Barbara Safran. Move that items B and D of Section 2 of the Standing Rules be changed to strike out the word election at the end of the paragraph and change to nominations effective as of 2003. Discussion. PASSED

12:00 pm Lunch served. Speaker, Leslie Appleton Young, CAR Economist.

1:50 pm Meeting called to order by Betty Taisch, Continuing committee reports.

Education and Programs- Rana Linka announced the program for October’s meeting will be guest speaker, Lorna Hines, speaking on “Advanced Real Estate Negotiation, Listings, and Keeping Your Commissions” She will speak on Monday. In the future it is recommended we have a LTG class prior to the State meeting.

Expo Task Force- Susan Clark, Co-Chair will duplicate what was done last year. Raffle tickets to cover the cost of the expenses. The prize will be $1,000. Tickets will be one for $5.00 or five for $20.00. Goal is to raise $4,500. Expo booth set-up on Tuesday the 8th in the morning. Opening of Expo on the 8th in the evening. Need volunteers at the booth Tuesday evening, Wednesday and Thursday. LCP’s will be asked to sell tickets at their chapter meeting.

Break in Committee Reports

2:00 PM Guest Speaker, Shannon B. Jones, Attorney at Law, spoke on “Current Issues for the Real Estate Professional.”

Betty Taisch introduced Jim Hamilton, 2002 CAR Treasurer and Robert Bailey, 2002 CAR President. Robert Bailey spoke on his view of WCR.

Committee Reports:

Member of the Year- Susan Marshall needs a committee. They will meet the day before our October meeting. Susan needs 3 committee members. Please see her to sign up.

Hospitality- Denise Smith. There will be a reception on Sunday in Long Beach.

Meeting Place Planning- Bobbie Nelson. At the October State Meeting: Sunday afternoon will be State Orientation; Monday and half day Tuesday will be our State meetings; Sunday light lunch served; Monday breakfast and lunch and Tuesday heavy Breakfast. Recommend that for next year $150.00 registration fee and late registration fee to be $180.00. Recommend pre-registration for one day only at $100.00 Recommended Credential committee to be named Registration committee.

Break for Speaker:

Jim Adams from First American Title Co. introduced our speaker, Carole Rodoni, whose topic was “ It is where the Rubber Meets the Road, Negotiation: Getting what you want and How To Do it”.

Committee Reports:

Awards- Linda Amodeo. No action items. Application for Awards is on our website. Reimburse $100.00 per class per member per year.

Membership- Sharon Telles reported suggestions on how to effectively utilize the Expo interests in membership in WCR.

Newsletter- Sarah Lay, Recommendation: for the online newsletter, “Official Call”, all Officers, Governors, Committee Reports, and any National, State, and Local event reports are due July 16, 2002 and November 1, 2002. Format for submission to be in Microsoft Word. Submit via email to Chair and Co-Chair of Newsletter committee.

Pinnacles- Lu Jayo reported this year’s winners were the Delta Chapter and Santa Cruz Chapter. We had 7 Chapters submit this year. State will submit for the year 2002 on the National level.

Web Site- Larry Miller, Co-Chair. The website needs to be revamped and have a new webmaster. MOTION that the State website move to another vendor with a total re-designed and customized website and new webmaster. Cost of $3,000 to taken out of the Technology budget. SECOND Discussion. Betty Taisch recommended that the Newsletter and Website committee work together on this. Pat Fredericks MOTION to refer action items back to committee. PASSED
