Why Committees?

Committees are an integral part of the structure of WCR at the local, state and national level. It is a chance to work together, develop leadership skills and team working abilities while enhancing the goals and direction of WCR. It should be considered an honor to be selected and to serve on a committee. A few pointers to keep in mind that will make your committee run well and be the most effective!

*Committee chair should maintain a "Committee Notebook" to keep track of minutes, agendas, goals, roster, attendance (continuity and structure arekey)

*This book should be brought to each meeting and passed on to the following year chair

*Committee should be run with an agenda, following informally Robert's rules and in accordance with the overall plan of the Executive Committee and plans for the year

*Motions from committee should be in writing for the secretary

*Agenda should be discussed with members prior to meeting, and work does occur between the 3 state meetings as necessary. Chair should meet" with members of committee by conference calls or email.

*At the state meetings the committee should refine the work done in the interim.

*Committee chairs are appointed by the President.

*Vice chairs may be groomed for the Chair the following year (not always)

*Volunteers are welcome for any committee.

*Accountability - of members to the committee chair and the chair to the executive committee
*If a committee member cannot attend a meeting, let the chair know and also what ideas you might have.

Let me know what committees you would like to serve on for the year 2002!!
